Old-School with a side of Trendy Old is definitely gold, and the interior of this thirty year old apartment has been carefully designed to preserve the best of its 3 decade history. Property The property is a 2 bedroom apartment; featuring a total of 70 meter square in area. Carried out as a whole house renovation by Faith Interior Design for the client Mr. Kenrus, this apartment retains its dated allure with a touch of contemporary in its theme. Overview of the Design Small style interior design is especially challenging to tackle; you could end up constricting the space by designing unnecessary barriers, incorporating an overwhelming theme or messing up the layout by curating disproportionate furniture. However, FID has handled the renovation exceptionally well and respected the smallness of the space by organizing a semi-open floor layout with just the right amount of privacy and respected the originality of the apartment itself. Theme and style The idea of this renovation was to preserve the antiquity of the space while incorporating some new and fresh ideas to liven up the ambiance. To accomplish a dichotomous theme; where half of the furniture, artwork and accessories are vivid and contemporary, while the other half is exuding a beautiful vintage vibe. The client is an college art lecturer, and appreciates creativity. His expert combination has rendered this apartment a wonderful allure that is part modern and part old-school and overall trendy. "An exhilarating experience..... A sanctuary". says Kendrus. Examining the Living Room The living room has been tastefully decorated with a mixture of warm and neutral color palates. The layout of the actual room is narrow, so the design has been complemented with open spaces and minimal furniture. The timber floor has been arranged in a fun herringbone style which is complemented by proper accentuating in the form of accessories and artwork. The transitional space between the dining area and the living room has been physically separated with a beautiful pyramid ladder-style shelf. Top all that off with the beautiful, antique themed industrial lighting fixture and this space handles the vintage-come-modern vibe exceptionally well. The hybrid bedroom design The bedroom interior emulates a simple design with adequate accenting in all the right space. The floor has been laid with timber boards in a herringbone design. The entire space exudes an old-school vintage charm with a dash of contemporary that has been emulated through expert placement of accessories and adequate finishes. The Kitchen Single countered with a cozy little eat-in and an intimate vibe has been accessorized with minimal finishes. This contemporary take has been complemented with the restored vintage peranakan tiles and under cabinet lighting. The contrast between the before-and-after is truly telling. The aspect of preservation Protecting some of the original materials was first priority during this remodel. It is hard to conduct a full-scale renovation without damaging the actual material used, but they managed to safeguard and restore the kitchen Peranakan tiles to the fullest. Retro bathroom finishes The bathroom is small and treated accordingly. The inside has been dressed in all white and a retro bathroom vanity has been placed outside as a functional accessory.
